In order to inspire and make known the transformational work of Salesian social works, it was decided to dedicate Tuesday, 28 November 2023 to celebrating all the initiatives carried out at the local level on behalf of Salesian Social Action as a network in Brazil.
"This year the UPV Gift Day has helped to promote and strengthen reflection on our responsibility to look after our common home. We usually talk about financial sustainability, but today we need to be clear that the concept of sustainability is much broader. During the campaign, I was able to see many initiatives that brought the works and their benefactors closer to concrete actions in response to Pope Francis' appeals, and this is a great gain for our social action in Brazil" the executive director of the RSB, Sister Silvia Aparecida da Silva, commented.
With the support of Don Bosco Green America and the Laudato Si' Movement, the RSB provided several formation sessions and materials to support local fundraising activities, as well as a marketing campaign produced by the RSB communication team to publicise the good that is done daily in Salesian social works.
"This year has been very challenging, but very rich and full of novelties. We brought together important topics, such as donations and sustainability. We have certainly managed to achieve many objectives throughout our network, especially with regard to the culture of giving, volunteering and raising awareness of caring for our common home"said Phelipe Sales, who is involved in RSB fundraising.
All efforts have led to great results for RSB Social Action. Surpassing the 2022 collection, this year, in one month, 3,146,421.46 reais (equal to almost 600 thousand euro) were collected in donations, in addition to:
- 124,352 kg of food;
- 6,286 volunteer hours;
- 133,641 families accompanied.
The Union for Life (UPV) is the means by which the Social Action of the Salesian Network Brazil raises funds to support the more than 100 social works throughout the country, which currently benefit more than 80,000 children, adolescents and young adults in situations of vulnerability, in addition to their families, allowing the formation of "good Christians and upright citizens".
