Calamba City, Philippines – November 2023 – Salesians of the Northern Philippines Province (FIN) gathered at the Diocesan Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Canlubang, Calamba City, to commemorate all deceased Salesians, with a special thought for those who have served in the Philippines. About 70 Salesians participated in the prayer session, coming from the different works of the Province, as well as Bishop Leo Murphy Drona, SDB, Bishop Emeritus of San Pablo, and Fr William Matthews, Superior of the Province of Australia-Pacific (AUL). Fr Gerry Martin, FIN Provincial, presided at the Mass to remember the dead and during the homily, citing the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Christus Vivit" he reiterated the importance of being like the "saints next door". At the end of the celebration, the Salesians visited the cemetery, praying for the eternal rest of the souls of all the deceased. Fr Martin finally concluded the prayers by blessing the graves of the deceased Salesians buried in the cemetery.
