The meeting was an opportunity to learn about the initiatives that the communication team conducts within the Provincial Communication Plan and the interventions developed starting from the different areas of animation of the Salesian Social Communication System.
The 29 participants in the meeting, including Salesians and lay people, shared their ideas and experiences, especially in the context of the accompaniment that the team provides to its target audience in the area of western Colombia.
Highlighting the importance of evangelisation and education, starting with narratives, Fr Gildasio Mendes presented some interesting reflections which can be grouped into three points.
Narratives are expressions; Salesian expressions that we must work on in depth. The digital world is a great platform where narratives are evident, but they are also changing and we must have the ability to understand the needs of today’s world and respond to them. It is not just about generating trends in the digital world, but also evangelising these trends; Fashion goes beyond consumption, and fashion must be understood as the result of art and creativity, which generates trends that move the world. For this reason, it is important to have a clear awareness of the use we make of it, its changes, where it is going and what reactions it generates in young people; The language of emotions is the heart of communication, it is the language that makes young people know and understand their tendencies and strength. It is the mechanism with which they communicate and with which we can evangelise.
Motivated by these reflections, the members of the COM Province Communication Sector will continue to advance in their work of animation, accompaniment and management of Communications at the service of young people and the Salesian Family.
