Minsk, Belarus - September 2023 - The parish of St John the Baptist in Minsk hosted the Don Bosco Youth Festival, a meeting of young people from Salesian settings, from 15 to 17 September. The festival was dedicated to environmental issues, as part of the 'Green Parish' project, and was also an opportunity to express gratitude for the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Belarus Provincial Delegation. On the first day of the festivity, after reception, the young people gathered in the oratory, where Fr Pavel Shcharbitsky, Superior of the Salesian Delegation in Belarus, and Fr Aleh Karaliou, Head of the oratory, explained the programme. In addition, those present were able to listen to the words of young people who participated in World Youth Day in Lisbon. The second day was devoted to practical work, with Sr Yulia Klevets, Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, and other speakers explaining the basics of water conservation, energy saving, biodiversity and waste recycling, rereading all this through the lens of the Encyclical Laudato si'. In the evening, after a time dedicated to sport and games, the young people received a greeting from Fr Viktar Haidukevich, former Superior of the Provincial Delegation of Belarus, in connection with a visit from Germany. Fr Haidukevich recalled the history of the Delegation and encouraged the young people to continue the 'Green Parish' project. On Sunday, Mass was held, celebrated by Archbishop Iosif Staneuski, Archbishop of Minsk-Mohilev. In his homily, the Archbishop recalled that St John Bosco described young people as the hope and the future of the Church and urged the Salesians to continue to dedicate their time to young people, to be with them, to teach them and to listen to what they think and what they talk about. Finally, the young people went to the oratory where they played sports, danced and shared their impressions of the celebration.
