India – Empowering young people: Rajanagar parish hosts an awareness programme on early school leaving and drug addiction
Rajanagar, India – September 2023 – In an important initiative aimed at reducing the problem of drug addiction and preventing early school leaving among young people, Rajanagar parish, Arunachal Pradesh, organised an awareness programme on 10 September. Leading the meeting was Sister Jacinta Topno, FMA, who shared with 231 young people valuable information on combating these urgent issues. Sister Topno stressed the importance of proper education and discouraged young people from dropping out of school. The event at Rajanagar parish was a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against drug addiction and the school dropout crisis. It brought together young people, religious leaders and government officials in their commitment to safeguarding the younger generations. Before this program, moreover, the Deputy Commissioner of Bordhumsa, Oling Lego, had convened a group of experts, including the Salesians Fr Rajesh Lakra, Parish priest of Rajanagar, and Fr Churuliyil Manoj Abraham, Dean of the Don Bosco school, Galenja, two Buddhist monks and representatives of the government. Oling Lego, known for his proactive stance on community issues, sought advice from the illustrious panel of experts, recognising the multifaceted approach needed to combat the threat of drug addiction.
