01 August 2023

Panjim, India – July 2023 - A meeting of Local Vocation Animators from all institutions in the Salesian Province of India-Panjim (INP) was held at the Don Bosco Panjim Salesian Centre on 29 July. It was attended by a total of 17 people. The meeting began with a moment of prayer led by Fr Melwin Ferrao and a welcome by Salesian Brother James Marcus, vocation promoter for the INP Province. In his address, the Provincial Fr Clive Telles, invited the participants to find in their own lives the joyful moments of God's call. He also emphasised that in choosing to accompany young people one must not forget that everyone needs accompaniment, a suitable guide: and he encouraged Salesians to work in synergy with the people they have around them. The Vice-Provincial, Fr Banzelao Teixeira, led a session on the art of Salesian accompaniment. In his presentation, he developed the seven stages of Salesian accompaniment: Reception, Challenge, Confidence and Trust, Environment, Crisis, Decision and Commitment. Fr Jason Pinto, in his session, spoke about Vocational Culture, and emphasised that the fruit of the Salesian apostolate must be measured by the vocations received. After the session, the Local Vocations Animators presented the vocations project for their communities. The Provincial Delegate for Vocations Orientation, Fr Avin Carvalho, encouraged the participants to create an atmosphere in their respective works and presences in which each young person is offered guidance in discovering his or her vocation, and urged the assembly to also invite the laity in this process of vocation discovery. He then suggested that each local community prepare a vocation project according to the Province's plan. Finally, Bro. Marcus gave each participant the animation material needed for vocation ministry work.
