Ecuador – Provincial Community Feast Day 2023

13 July 2023

Manta, Ecuador – July 2023 – "As yeast in the today's human family", was the motivating phrase for the Provincial Community Feast Day of the Salesians of Ecuador, which took place on Saturday 8 July in the community of Manta. It was a moment of encounter between Salesians, lay people, young people and representatives of the various groups of the Salesian Family, in which thanks were given to God for the Province's accompaniment on the path of evangelisation and education among the country's young people. The Eucharist was celebrated in the church dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and was attended by around 500 people, including Salesians, representatives of the Salesian Family of Ecuador and young people from the association groups. The Mass was celebrated by Fr Marcelo Farfán, ECU Provincial, and concelebrated by several Salesians celebrating significant anniversaries of profession and ordination this year. At the beginning of his homily, Fr Farfán recalled that the day was meant to be a thanksgiving for the faithfulness of the Salesians living their vocation, and named each of the celebrants. He then reminded all participants that the Heart of Christ is what must be at the centre of the provincial community, inspiring total dedication to the cause of the Kingdom of God in the style of Don Bosco.  At the end of the Mass, the celebration moved to the San José Educational Unit, where an artistic and cultural programme was developed, the the key players in which were the young people who make up the different association groups.
