India – The Chief Minister of Meghalaya visits Don Bosco Technical School in Shillong

03 July 2023

(ANS – Shillong) – The Don Bosco Technical School in Shillong had the privilege of receiving the visit of the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, on 28 June. His free and spontaneous interaction with apprentices has motivated and encouraged them to engage patiently through their training, to secure employment or to start an entrepreneurial job.

The Chief Minister visited the training facilities and laboratories to learn the different trades. He had the opportunity to interact with the students at the Technical School and motivated them to take their training seriously in order to enter the world of work. He was pleased to learn that some apprentices have already received job offers and will be travelling to Mumbai.

During a brief ceremony organised on campus, Fr Arcadius Puwein, Principal of the School, welcomed all members of the management, teachers and students. He said that the Don Bosco School is a blessing for many young people, since most of those who attend it have not been admitted to other colleges or institutes. But here, most of these young people have managed to find a learning path and will have job prospects, through the training and growth opportunities offered on campus.

The Chief Minister then distributed certificates of completion of the course and letters of job offers to the apprentices in the Catering and Automotive Sector, trained by the Don Bosco Tech Society as part of the Meghalaya Skills project funded by the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS).

In his address to young people, the Chief Minister encouraged them to continue their training and studies with patience and perseverance. Mr Sangma then reminded the students that, thanks to the support and opportunities provided by the government and the MSSDS, they are now in a better position. He therefore urged everyone to take the opportunity to equip themselves with the required skills, to find a job and to become entrepreneurs.

Finally, Fr Saji Stephen thanked and assured the young people that the Don Bosco Technical School will never stop working for them.
