Today in Africa there are more than 1,200 Salesians, 100 schools, 80 Vocational Training Centres, 29 reception centres for children at risk, 200 youth centres/oratories, 7 centres for work with refugees, 10 hospitals or medical clinics and 4 community radios.

Looking more closely at the data concerning education, it emerges that in total there are 47,692 female and 74,108 male pupils in schools entrusted to the care of the Salesians.

Students are distributed as follows:

kindergartens: 2,565 girls and 3,481 boys;
primary schools: 15,149 girls and 21,736 boys;
lower secondary schools: 11,240 girls and 17,293 boys;
upper secondary schools: 6,636 girls and 13,950 boys;
technical schools: 6,935 girls and 12,604 boys .

Added to these are the basic literacy schools and parish schools that also serve to combat school dropouts, and cater for 5,267 girls and 5,044 boys (Source: Salesian Congregation, updated data for the General Chapter in 2020).

For the demographic context (birth rate, food crises, migrations) it is difficult to collect general statistical data frequently. The numbers indicated have certainly grown in recent years and can be considered as indicating trends.
