D.R. Congo - Provincial of Central Africa presides over meeting of Pastoral Educational Community and St. Domenico Savio feast
Goma, D.R. Congo - May 2023 - On May 6, the Superior of the Salesian Province of Central Africa (AFC), Fr. Guillermo Basañes, presided over the update meeting with the Pastoral Educational Community (PEC) of the "Don Bosco Ngangi" Youth Center on the topic of collaboration between Salesians and lay people. About 150 people attended. Fr. Jean-Pierre Muhima, SDB, Director of the Salesian work "Don Bosco Ngangi," opened the proceedings by promoting the spirit of conviviality and communion that should characterize the Salesian Family. During his speech, Fr. Basañes explained that everyone must have his or her role in the PEC, whether Salesian, consecrated or non-consecrated lay person. He urged PEC members to reflect daily on the common vocation and mission; and to have their gaze or focus of faith on serving poor youth following the example and model of Don Bosco. As a solution to disagreements that may arise in community life, Fr. Basañes recommended dialogue. May 6 was also the liturgical celebration of St. Domenico Savio and at "Don Bosco Ngangi," the Provincial prayed with the young people of the ADES group - "Friends of St. Domenico Savio." He recalled the richness of faith, modesty, and commitment to the constant service of this saint, who, from his meeting with Don Bosco, took the path of holiness to become the apostle and model of the young people who stood alongside Don Bosco. In the afternoon, several dozen "Friends of Dominic Savio" held cultural activities and games.
