Tanzania – Don Bosco Tech Africa Annual Stakeholders Assembly (ASA)

(ANS – Dar es Salaam) – Don Bosco Tech Africa Annual Stakeholders assembly 2023 kicked off on 20th March in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This years’ meeting is guided by the theme ‘Transforming TVET for successful employment and quality of life for youth in Africa’.

TVET is steadily gaining popularity in Africa and it is considered as the driver for economic and sustainable development. Accordingly, Don Bosco Tech Africa came up with this theme to discuss on how TVET can be transformed in Africa in order to achieve sustainable development and offer young people quality life. It is important to note that transformation will not be achieved by only acknowledging the importance of TVET but it requires strategic interventions, investment and networking and partnering with relevant stakeholders.

The meeting was officially opened by Eng. Enock Kayani the Head of Curriculum Validation and Custody, from The National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) whereby he noted that there has been a great collaboration between the government of Tanzania and Don Bosco. However, he emphasized that there are a lot of opportunities and Don Bosco should grab them to help in the growth of Don Bosco TVET centres.

In his address to the participants Fr. Alphose Owoudou, the Regional Councillor Africa-Madagascar reminded the participants that this is an opportunity for all to learn strategies that can make TVET centres effective and sustainable. It is a time to learn about effective collaboration between Don Bosco and the Government in Tanzania, share best practices that will lead us to make positive changes in TVET in Africa.

 “It is a time to build networks and make them efficient for the benefit of young people. This way our goal for giving young people quality of life will be achieved” said Fr. George Tharaniyil Director Don Bosco Tech Africa.

The discussions of the meeting will involve various stakeholders drawn from different levels; global, continental, national, industries, Salesians, Non-governmental organizations, donors and beneficiaries.

The meeting is attended by the Province Youth Ministry Delegates (PYD), Province Technical and Vocational Education and Training Coordinators (PTVET), the Job Service Officers (JSOs) and Provincial Economers and Planning and Development Office (PDO) Directors. Other notable key persons are Fr. Jose Lorebeth from the Youth Ministry department in Rome, Fr. Dindo S. Vitug – Director Don Bosco Tech ASEAN, Eng. Enock Kayani – the Head of Curriculum Validation and Custody, from The National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) Tanzania and Mr. Steffen Möhlendick Project Manager Public Cooperation Partners – Don Bosco Mondo.
