“Almost everyone in our country has heard of Don Bosco: whether it's from the Salesians, a school, a playground operation or a youth aid facility,” explains Tim Bex, coordinator for media and communication. “But a lot of people don't know the story behind all those organisations. Yet the connecting element, the unique selling point, is the story and the educational style of Don Bosco.”
Storytelling
An educational style that has lasted for almost two centuries. “On our new website, we are putting more emphasis on storytelling,” Tim continues. “Who is Don Bosco and why does he still inspire our organisations today in the way they work? That is central. On our previous website, you could find all kinds of peripheral information, but the basics were missing. The mission and vision and the heritage that all our organisations carry with them are the guiding principles of our new website.”
Think outside the box
The website is officially managed by the Salesians of Don Bosco. “But we do not only focus on the Salesians,” Tim concludes. “In Flanders and the Netherlands, our organisations reach thousands of, often vulnerable, young people. We therefore do not want to think in boxes, but see ourselves as one big movement: the Don Bosco family. Our website should therefore be accessible to everyone: to people who are already part of this family, but also to people who want to discover our story.”
“A home for young people” is the appropriate slogan for Don Bosco Flanders & Netherlands.
