For the last decade and throughout the pandemic, Don Bosco Makati has always advocated for the betterment of living conditions of its partner community in Don Bosco Calauan. Since its establishment in Bayani Juan South Ville 7, Calauan, Laguna, Philippines by the Salesians of Don Bosco, the Pastoral Ministry of Don Bosco Makati has organized multiple programs for the families residing in the community through personal encounters, gift-giving activities, donations of food packs and essential items, livelihood programs, and funding for its Training Center and scholarship programs.
For the School Year 2022-2023, the Bosconians from the Junior High School (Grades 7-10) and Senior High School (Grades 11-12), together with the Lay Mission Partners (LMPs) of Don Bosco Makati once again partnered with the community of Don Bosco Calauan-Philippines for the project dubbed as “Tahanan: Paalsahin ang Dignidad ng Pamilyang Pilipino” (“A Home: Uplifting the Dignity of the Filipino Family”). Anchored to the Strenna of the Rector Major for 2023, this project aims to be the “Yeast” that raises the quality of life of the marginalized sector through the active participation of the Bosconians and the Lay Mission Partners -the Yeast of Don Bosco Makati.
On February 15 and 17, 2023, student representatives from each level together with their respective advisers and volunteer LMPs visited their partner families for a half-day immersion. These initial visits were conducted to assess the living conditions of the family. Insights from the experience are then shared with the whole sector to come up with a concrete plan to raise funds for the renovation of their houses, which in turn could help in making the home conducive for raising their children with the pride and dignity they deserve. As this fund-raising project will be done throughout the Lenten Season, it is also expected that this experience will deepen the commemoration of the occasion through the prayers and sacrifices offered by both Bosconians and LMPs. The project took an even bigger step as the parents of some Bosconians joined the immersion, making the endeavor a collective affair by the Educative Pastoral Community (EPC) of Don Bosco Makati.
Through the proactive role of our young servant-leaders, Don Bosco Makati could ensure that our partner community in Don Bosco Calauan will have safer and cleaner homes.
The entire EPC invokes the intercession of our Saint John Bosco for the satisfactory completion of the said project.
