Iquitos, Peru - February 2023 - On the third day of the Visit of the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, to the Salesians of Peru, the actual visit to the Missionary Community of Kuyuntza could not be carried out as planned due to bad weather. Accompanied by the Salesians, the Rector Major took the opportunity to learn about the pastoral work and historical care of the material belonging to the Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos, which is located in the Amazon Library. He also visited the Mother Church St. John the Baptist and some of the city's tourist attractions. A moment of deep reflection was experienced in the meeting of Fr. Á. F. Artime, together with the Salesians, with the Bishops of the Vicariate of Yurimaguas, Pucallpa, and Iquitos. During the meeting, they talked about the experience of indigenous communities and the challenges they face within the Church. Mgr. Miguel Ángel Cadenas, Bishop of the Vicariate of Iquitos, and Fr. Miguel Fuertes, pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, were then thanked for their hospitality.
