The tenth meeting of this regional training school was held on December 1, 2022, on the theme "Developing a Provincial Policy for Social Networks," the scope being to equip all Delegates and their collaborators with the knowledge and skills necessary for the proper use of electronic and digital means for internal communication, with people, especially the youth, and with the community at large.
The meeting focused on several different areas and aspects, including the purpose of developing this policy or defining the roles and tasks of people within the work or activity environment - among Salesians, lay collaborators, and volunteers.
A set of guiding principles were examined, defining the scope of a given policy reference, and that identify relevant content and contributions for social networks.
Guidelines for Salesian presence on social platforms were addressed, and it was also reiterated that digital communications however cannot and should not replace physical, real, concrete, and personal communications, especially with young people.
Finally, some of the possible consequences in case of violation of contracts or guidelines stated in the relevant provincial policy were also discussed.
The session was instructive and useful for all: for some, it was a review, since in their respective Provinces such policies have already been promulgated; for others, however, it provided proper insights and practical suggestions for developing such processes in their contexts.
All also agreed on the need for periodic revisions of these policies as needs arise given the ever-changing and developing digital technologies.
