Bangkok, Thailand - Oct. 31, 2022 - The General Conference of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) has just concluded in Bangkok, which was attended by some 226 delegates, including 20 cardinals, 120 bishops, 37 priests, 8 religious and 41 lay people from 29 Asian countries. In addition to FABC President Salesian Cardinal Charles Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, a good number of Salesian bishops from East Asia and South Asia participated. The final message released on Oct. 30, at the conclusion of 15 days of discussions on the challenges of the Asian continent, reads "It was a fruitful time of prayer, listening, discernment and mutual encouragement. It was also a time of healing from the pain caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Through our discussions and deliberations at the conference, we touched the soul of Asia." Then in the concluding part of the message, the FABC states that it believes that peace and reconciliation are the only way forward, that the churches in Asia are committed to reaching out to the peripheries and responding to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor to foster authentic dialogue and promote a culture of peace and harmony. "By walking these paths together, we assure the peoples of this continent that the Catholic Church in Asia will always work for a better Asia and for the good of all."
