India – Rector Major interacts with the Salesian Family
Guwahati, India - October 2022 – On October 24, the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime met and interacted with the members of the Salesian family at the Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati.
The Provincials and councils of the Daughters of Mary help of Christians, Missionary sisters of Mary Help of Christians, Sisters of Mary Immaculate, Salesian co-operators, some of the former provincials, vice-Provincials, belonging to different salesian provinces of India were among those present for the meeting.
The sisters felicitated the Rector Major and explained their field of work in the region and their collaboration with the Salesians in different centres in the region and in other parts of the country and that of the world. They expressed their joy
to receive the Rector Major and interact with him, and their eagerness and willingness for greater collaboration with the Salesians of Don Bosco in carrying out the mission towards the young, in proclaiming the word of God in the mission Centres.
Mother Philomena Mathew, the Mother General of the MSMHC, the congregation founded by venerable Stephen Ferrando SDB; shared and invited the assembly to join in their celebration of the centenary of the ordination and the centenary of the arrival of their founder to India. She also said that it was today, that the their congregation was born 80 years ago.
The Salesian Cooperators too shared their mission and works among the people especially the action taken by them during the days of the Covid Pandemic. Pointing out to the current world situation, Fr. Ángel exhorted the provincials and councils to be always available and close to the people in humble service and flexibility. He added, “be aware of the leadership crises that exists in today’s world; clinging to power is indeed a sickness in the world and instead humility and service in this context becomes something beautiful, relevant and credible.”
