First letters narrating Salesian presence in Brazil

The celebration of the 139th anniversary of the arrival of the Salesians in Brazil, on 14 July 1883 in the city of Rio de Janeiro, is an invitation to remember Don Bosco's legacy, starting from the first letters that describe the Salesian presence in Brazil. From reading them, it is possible to understand a little better the beginning of Salesian evangelizing action in the country.

First letter: April 13, 1881
Written by Msgr. Pedro Maria de Lacerda, Bishop of Rio de Janeiro to Don Bosco with an invitation to collaborate in the educational-pastoral process in Brazil.

Second letter: 24 May 1882

Also written by Fr Lasagna for Don Bosco, to present the progress achieved and to tell of the reception received by the Salesians in other Brazilian states.

Fourth letter: August 6, 1883
