INDIA - DBSTI organizes Peace seminar on 201st anniversary of the birth of Don Bosco

25 August 2016

(ANS -Guwahati) - To counter the rise of intolerance in society, the Don Bosco Technical Institute of Tezpur organized a one-day seminar on 16 August with the theme "Messengers of Peace." The seminar was organized to honour Don Bosco on the 201st anniversary of his birth.

Sixteen schools and universities took part in the seminar. The participants exchanged ideas on how to become a messenger of peace in a given context. The speeches were inspiring and very lively.

Shri Joyshankar, Director of the College of Darrang Tepzur, highlighted one need: "Each of us has to change in what we desire most.  Peace has its mission and carries with it all the love you can give to others," he said in his speech. He urged young people to face the current scenario of intolerance with courage.

The Provincial, Fr V.M. Thomas, insisted that the dream has to become a reality soon. "Peace is possible," he said, adding that peace should start from within us. He gave a powerful message that appealed to young people.

At least twenty-two loudspeakers relayed the message that all can be promoters of peace. Everyone stressed the need to inculcate inner peace and to become a true messenger of peace. Here are some highlights: "Peace is not made in a workshop but in people's hearts." "Peace does not come by itself except by way of personal responsibility."  “Peace begins with a smile to one’s neighbour." "Peace is never exhausted when shared with others, only then will we begin to live."

Many participants were shocked as a result of recent events in Assam involving mainly innocent victims.
