Italy - A student of Salesian International Institute Edoardo Agnelli is youngest Italian on Europe’s rooftop

29 July 2022

Turin, Italy - July 2022 - A very young Federico Tomasi, a student of the Salesian International Institute "Edoardo Agnelli" in Turin, accompanied by Trentino mountain guide Matteo Faletti, has conquered the summit of Mont Blanc. Federico is 12 years old and is the youngest Italian to have climbed the so-called Roof of Europe. Never has such a young Italian climbed so high: after eight consecutive hours of walking (starting at midnight from the "Francesco Gonella" Refuge) he reached the summit of Mont Blanc, 4,810 meters. He did so on June 25 from the Italian Route, the longest and most strenuous of the three leading to the summit. The long descent to the valley culminated in Chamonix, France. Federico was tested most of all by the large temperature range: starting in Courmayeur with 24°, at the summit, it was -7°: more than a 30° difference. The ascent was brought forward by a month because experts indicated that, given the particularly hot year, it was best to do it as soon as possible. This was no small challenge because instead of two months of training after school ended, Federico had only one. Even before Mont Blanc, Federico had reached the summit of the Matterhorn (4,478), the youngest Italian to do so.
