Belarus - After a two-year hiatus, Salesian Youth Evangelization Pilgrimage to Budslau resumes

12 July 2022

Budslau, Belarus - July 2022 - The Salesian Youth Evangelization Pilgrimage (SMEP) was held from June 26 to July 2. Salesian youth carried out the walking pilgrimage to Budslau, the main Marian shrine in Belarus. In 6 days, the pilgrims, under the guidance of Fr. Pavel Shcharbitski, SDB, Regional Delegate of the Salesians in Belarus, walked the 105-kilometer route, with a retreat along the way. The pilgrimage began in Smarhon with the first Mass celebrated by Fr. Mihail Radzievich, SDB, who was ordained a priest the day before. The Salesian pilgrimage is aimed primarily at young people and has the specific character of evangelization. This is manifested in the fact that, along the way, pilgrims make efforts to interact with the people, distribute holy pictures, and invite people to conferences and evangelization evenings. In this way, they witness their faith and the joy of encountering the Lord. The conferences were prepared by Fr. Arturo Liashneuski, SDB, who for 6 days led the reflections on the Strenna 2022 of the Rector Major. On the sixth day, SMEP entered Budslau with loud and joyful songs and pilgrims lay down forming a cross on the square in front of the shrine. Each person brought their intentions, thanksgivings, and requests for forgiveness to Mary.
