The Province of Trichy has 28 local centers, of which 22 are full-fledged local centers, 2 are sub-centers (where there are less than 6 promised members to form a council) and 4 are Aspirant centers (where all the members are non-promised aspirants). 19 local centers, including 2 sub-centers and 4 aspirant centers are animated by SDB local delegates and 9 local centers are animated by FMA local delegates. We have totally 376 promised members and 203 aspirants in the province. Delegates and coordinators from all these 28 local centers were invited for the meeting.
The programme was held in the FMA Provincial house, Manikandam, Trichy, on 26th June 2022, Sunday. There were 15 Salesian priests, 10 Salesian Sisters and 26 lay persons took part actively in the programme. The event commenced with the Sunday Eucharist celebrated by Rev. Fr. Agilan SDB, the Provincial of Trichy. After the mass, Mr. Jesuraj, the Provincial ASC Treasurer welcomed the gathering and Rev. Sr. Margaret FMA, the Provincial of Trichy FMA Province felicitated the gathering. Rev. Fr. Thomas Louis SDB, the Provincial Salesian Family Delegate gave a key note address on the topic ‘Creative ways of carrying out the regular activities of the Association’.
The last election for the local and provincial council of ASC in the province was held in the year 2018. The tenure of the councils got over in the year 2021 and the World council of ASC with the approval of the Rector Major extended their term for one more year and this year is the year of election. The Provincial Delegates Fr. Joseph Charles SDB and Sr. Rosy FMA explained in detail the norms, procedures for the local and provincial level elections of ASC in the Province. The participants clarified their doubts and we fixed the dates of local council elections and the provincial council elections. We decided to complete all the local level elections by the end of July 2022 and the Provincial level elections by August 2022.
Fr. Agilan, the Salesian Provincial motivated the Salesian Cooperators to function more autonomously in communion with the Salesians and prepare themselves well to take up some specific Salesian Mission in the Province and run it independently. The in-person meeting organized after 2 years gave a lot of inspiration and joy to the participants that everyone felt virtual meeting should never substitute the regular meeting. Mr. Dolor Selvaraj, the Provincial ASC Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Xavier Amaladoss, the Provincial ASC coordinator, coordinated the whole programme. The meeting was concluded with a hymn to Don Bosco.
