From 31 March to 6 April Mr. Magro and Mr. Mruk visited the border between Slovakia and Ukraine and they met with Ukrainian Refugees who were crossing the border as well as past pupils who are offering volunteering service to meet with Ukrianian refugees as soon as they cross the border. Past pupils are offering material help, transport, accommodation, financial support and hosting orphans with their families as well as offering psychological support to Ukrainian Refugees.
During his visit, the World President thanked many past pupils and other members of the Salesian Family who he met when visiting various Salesian houses. He was impressed on the organisation and the work that is being done by the Salesian communities and the past pupils who are active in providing relief help which is much needed. While addressing past pupils, Mr. Magro highlighted the importance of the responsability of the past pupil and friend of Don Bosco to offer support to the young and he stated: “there is no doubt that the Slovak past pupils are showing their commitment to social solidarity in the Salesian Family Spirit and they are embracing the words of the gospel by being: the salt of the earth and the light of the world”.
Past Pupils and Friends of Don Bosco from Italy, Spain, Brazil, India, Malta, Slovakia, Portugal, France, Belgium and Poland are working hand in hand with the Salesians in collecting funds and other needs to support Ukrainian Refugees.
