Italy – Families and peace in the world at center of ADMA's focus

16 March 2022

(ANS - Turin) - The Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA), the fourth group of the Salesian Family, founded by Don Bosco himself, is distinguished by its Marian devotion, inherited from its founder, and also by its special focus on families. Both of these aspects are clearly visible in the recent initiatives undertaken by the association.

As part of the pastoral accompaniment of families, last month the Salesian houses of Valdocco, Colle don Bosco, Cumiana, and Rivoli hosted the usual ADMA family retreats promoted by the Primary ADMA to continue reading, meditating, praying, and living the 6th chapter of Amoris Laetitia, entitled "Some pastoral perspectives", with a Lenten reading attached.

On the occasion, Fr Alejandro Guevara, World Spiritual Animator of ADMA, and Fr Roberto Carelli, Salesian delegate for accompaniment, family ministry, and formation of ADMA, spoke about "Lent in Marriage", because, they observed, Lent has a beginning and an end, it is a time of preparation in view of Easter and not a time that is an end in itself; and, last but not least, Lent also dwells in the normality of married life, which does not lack moments of difficulty in which the way of being married is played out.

Subsequently, other passages of the papal text were studied in-depth, and other fundamental points emerged: that married life is a gift and deserves to be lived with joy and hope, in full agreement with Salesian spirituality; that a marriage is always a journey in the making, in which one must know how to welcome the limits of the other spouse (pedagogy of welcomed limits); that "what is sown in marriage" is important, and to pay attention to the time dedicated to the couple; and that moments of crisis belong to family life and must be learned to face and deal with.

The retreats were lived in presence, with live streaming of both the catechesis and the moment of sharing, to allow all members to live the monthly formative moment.

Regarding the initiatives for peace, the basilica of Mary Help of Christians and the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA) propose an hour of international prayer for peace, on the 24th March 2022 at 20:45 (CET), to ask the intercession of Mary for the gift of peace in all countries and especially in Ukraine. You can participate from all over the world, spiritually united and digitally connected.

In anticipation of that day, since yesterday, March 15, the recitation of a novena for peace is also proposed, the text of which can be downloaded here.
