In his speech, the General Councilor for Social Communication affirmed that communication does not go alone, but is part of the wider Salesian educational and pastoral project. “Why do we use social networks creatively? To evangelize the young! Why do we technically prepare to communicate professionally and competently? To educate the young! Why do we want to work in the digital and virtual world? To evangelize and educate young people! Why live in the digital world? To be educators and communicators of young people in the style of Don Bosco!” he stated.
Fr García Morcuende indicated: “We are a worldwide charismatic family at the service of young people. And we live interconnected. This makes us stronger if we listen to and learn from each other. The digital world, and especially social networks, have become a reality in which we must be present because our young people are there, and they are also a space for evangelization.”
“The Communication Delegations of the Salesian Provinces in Spain worked together on many issues such as organization, products and channels, shared ideas, corporate image, the information website, the shared communication plan... Personally, I saw that it was very important to make this path visible, and to do it around formation. When in 2014 the six Spanish Provinces were reorganized in two, we proposed to organize a day of Salesian communication, which would help us to combine the criteria, to form ourselves in the aspects that seemed necessary to us, and to show the path we were following. This is how the first Communication Day was born, on 21 February 2014. The theme was educational marketing, which at that time was beginning to receive a lot of attention,” Fr Valiente said.
Over the years the appointment has consolidated, becoming an open, wide-ranging event, not only for communication professionals, who are already a large group in our provinces, but also for all those educators, animators, technicians, who deal with communication in Salesian works.
In this edition, the new Salesian Podcast portal was presented with topical issues, opinion and entertainment, and the opportunity was offered to participate in various practical workshops on network management.
In addition to formation, the Communication Day has now become an opportunity to learn about the good practices carried out in the various Salesian houses in the country, as well as an opportunity to invite people from the business world, universities, people outside the Salesian environment, who offer new and different points of view.
