After the dynamic invitation of the Message for 2021 -"Come and see", which urged communication operators to reach out and tell what they wanted to tell in person - this year the Pontiff asks "the world of communication to learn to listen again."
Thus states a press release of the Holy See Press Office which comments on the presentation of the theme of the Message:
“The pandemic,” reads the text of the Vatican Press Office, “has affected and wounded everyone, and everyone needs to be heard and comforted. Listening is also fundamental for good information. The search for truth begins with listening. And so does witnessing through the means of social communication. Every dialogue, every relationship begins with listening. For this reason, in order to grow, even professionally, as communicators, we need to re-learn to listen a lot.”
The note then recalls that in the Gospel Jesus himself "asks us to pay attention to how we listen". The Pope observes, “to be able to truly listen, requires courage, a free and open heart, without prejudice.” The note ends: “At this time when the whole Church is invited to listen in order to learn to be a synodal Church, we are all invited to rediscover listening as essential for good communication.”
