On 30 May, the Salesian communities of Kathmandu valley with the support of benefactors have donated medical equipment and accessories including an oxygen concentrator, oximeters, PPE kits, masks, sanitizer, etc., to the Godavari municipality to take better care of the covid patients at the newly-opened covid centre within their administrative area. The newly-started centre has 19 occupants currently. Several have returned home, cured by the medical care given there. The municipality with a population of 78,301 has about 875 active covid cases and has lost 37 people to the pandemic. The Coordinator, Fr Pulickal, has assured the Mayor of making provisions available to the needy of the municipality during this trying time.

The Covid-19 situation in Nepal is worsening, quicker compared to the situation of the first wave. In the last 15 days, there had been an increase of 102,104 cases and 2,271 deaths in Nepal. The country has been on an extended lockdown, stricter than the past month's long lockdown with all the malls and grocery shops closed for a week. Although all were advised to gather groceries and provisions for a week in advance, the daily labourers were at a loss as they couldn’t afford to buy provisions at one go for a whole week. The current covid scenario of the country, as of 30 May, shows 557,124 active cases and 7,272 deaths.

The Salesians first came to Nepal in 1922 and currently number 21, all hailing from five Indian provinces. They won the appreciation of the Nepal Government for the relief work and reconstruction of 10 Primary and Secondary schools carried out after the devastating earthquakes of 2015. Several social developmental projects are carrying on by the seven communities working in the country.
