This provision came through the message from the Governor of the North Kivu Province, read on the national channel, the Radio Télévision Nationale Congolaise, in the late evening of Wednesday 26 May. This message invited all the inhabitants of the different districts listed by the experts of the Volcanological Observatory of Goma, OVG, and believed to be located in the "red zone" from where another eruption could occur, to compulsorily evacuate the area by yesterday, Thursday 27 May, to seek safety.
Massive movements of people - on foot, by motorbike or by car - were observed from dawn. Some inhabitants remained in front of their plots of land waiting to receive logistical means from the government authorities for moving and guidelines on the reception infrastructures in Sake.
The Salesians of Don Bosco who live in Goma, for their part, were no exception to this government provision. After having already moved on the day of the eruption, with the babies and small children of the Ushindi orphanage at the "Maison Marguerite" and with the other children and young people at the "Maison Gahinja", they once again had to move quickly in Shasha, a city located about 40 km from Goma, where the Salesians have a plantation of several hectares.
There in Shasha they trust that children and all minors will be safe from the possible eruption and continuous tremors that are felt in many parts of the city.
