Italy - Salesian Missions Sector visit VIS headquarters
Rome, Italy - March 2021 - On 11 March the Sector for the Salesian Missions visited the headquarters of the "International Volunteer Service for Development" (VIS), a non-governmental organization of Salesian inspiration that has been operating for 35 years in various countries of the world, currently 40. The meeting was an opportunity to mutually deepen the knowledge between the members of the Missions Sector - Fr Alfred Maravilla, General Councilor for the Missions, Fr George Menamparampil, Fr Pavel Ženíšek and Marco Fulgaro - and several VIS members - Nico Lotta, president of VIS, Gianluca Antonelli and Riccardo Giannotta. VIS showed its organizational structure, the campaigns in progress and the projects carried out, sharing with the Missions Sector not only the operational areas, but also the educational vision of integral development from a Salesian perspective, which is the pivot of the entire associative mission. The issues of international volunteering and projects relating to refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants were discussed, priorities shared with the Missions Sector. VIS is also a member of the “Don Bosco Network”, the network of Salesian NGOs, which promotes social justice, fraternity and solidarity with the most vulnerable, especially the young, throughout the world.
