On 2 March 2021, at the Salesian Formation Center in Armenia (Colombia), the community that animates the Salesian works of the Eje Cafetero, together with a team of lay collaborators, started the experience of a Salesian youth center-oratory for the children and young people who live in the area where the Salesian presence is located.
This initiative was born following a discernment made by the Salesians in 2020, to respond to the call to go towards new frontiers with flexible activities and works that respond to the needs of young people in different contexts. For this reason, the local community has decided to expand the educational and pastoral action that takes place in the Formation Center, where young people and adults are trained through various courses: Welding, Cooking, Tailoring, Hairdressing.
This new proposal broadens the range of action of the Salesian proposal in Armenia, and completes the formative proposal through new opportunities: recreational, sports, cultural, school reinforcement, psychosocial and family support ... Together, obviously, with a proposal for youth evangelization that helps to save young people from the problems of addiction, delinquency and the lack of options for the population of the La Cecilia district.
Currently, the new pastoral educational service is supported by the "Don Bosco" Salesian Institute in Dosquebradas, which also animates the work in Armenia; over time, however, it is hoped that more people and organizations will join this formative proposal to guarantee its growth and to be able to reach more recipients with the educational charism of St. John Bosco.
