Philippines - Countdown begins for 500th anniversary of first Mass celebrated in the Country

Maasin, Philippines - June 2020 - On June 4, Msgr. Precioso Dacalos Cantillas, SDB, bishop of Maasin, presided over the Eucharist in the diocesan cathedral which marked the beginning of the 300 days to the 500th anniversary of the first Mass celebrated in the Philippines, on the Island of Limasawa. About 81% of the Filipino population, which is estimated to be over 100 million, identify themselves as Catholic.
