The purpose of the meeting was to share the progress of initiatives undertaken in the implementation of the objectives, processes and interventions established in the meeting held last October.
Vicente Fritz, the Delegate for Communications in Chile (CIL), led and opened the meeting, offering words of welcome and then leaving space for a moment of prayer, animated from Rome by Fr Ricardo Campoli, member of the Department for Social Communication.
Later, Fr Pakkam Harris, Director of ANS, the Salesian News Agency, greeted those present and congratulated participants for the work done.
Alejandra Rodríguez, from Central America (CAM), shared the progress made by the Salesian Bulletin of her Province and highlighted the work carried out with the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement; as regards editorial content, this included testimonies and the integration of current issues relevant to the daily life of adolescents.
Andrés Barrios and Fr Fabio Díaz, from Colombia, commented on the progress of their country’s Bulletin, which has reached four annual publications, and the international success in digital reading. Furthermore, they underlined the work of refinement of the design and presented various aspects of the world of youth.
Finally, Fr Campoli offered a formative moment that included a reflection on the different types of reading on paper and on digital platforms. In this context, he stressed that “the screen is a means of literacy, as the production of books is in decline, but not the production of content. Now, there are new ways of reading and we must learn to exploit their potential.”
The meeting was organized and coordinated by the team of Chile’s Salesian Bulletin and was attended by about 30 representatives of the Salesian Bulletins from the American continent.
