Italy – A nice gift to most needy children from the 70th anniversary of public TV

25 March 2024

(ANS – Rome) – Among the countless gifts of St John Bosco, Father, Teacher and Friend of the Young – who to save his boys was, when needed, a tightrope walker, teacher, writer, entrepreneur, player, playwright, master of arts and crafts... as well as a priest – there was also the ability to raise funds: few people like him were able to involve so many people and groups of all kinds to benefit his mission for young people at risk. Today his spiritual Sons follow in his footsteps in this too. And so, for example, one very popular Italian television broadcast, as a way of celebrating an important anniversary, has become an ally of the Salesians and their educational service for youngsters who have had less from life.

On Saturday, 23 March 2024, RAI – the first television hub in Italy and one of the largest communication companies in Europe – dedicated a special episode of its famous award-winning broadcast of "L 'Eredità" to the 70th anniversary of the birth of television in Italy (1954-2024). It was the second special episode of the famous format, following the one on the previous Saturday dedicated to the Sanremo Festival.

Last Saturday's episode, called the"Special Heritage - Long Live RAI", kept its classic presentation as a game show, but was adapted to the special theme of the evening. So there were still many fun questions and quizzes, but they were not answered by ordinary people but by famous figures from the Italian show, who instead of facing questions of general culture had to answer a whole series of questions related to these first 70 years of the life of Italian public TV and its protagonists.

The most interesting element, however, was that the final prize pool accumulated through the various quizzes and questions answered by the numerous competitors in the race was donated in its entirety to "Salesians for Social APS" – the civil entity of the Salesians of Italy that accompanies the pastoral dimension of disadvantage and educational poverty.

And thanks to the skills of the various television characters involved, almost 50,000 euro have been collected for charity, all of which will go to the aid of children in need.

L'eredità (Legacy) is an Italian television game show broadcast on RAI 1 for over 20 years – first edition in July 2002 – usually broadcast in early evening segment. Produced in collaboration with "Banijay Italia", it has seen some of the most famous Italian television characters among its presenters, and is currently hosted by Marco Liorni.

The special episode that allocated its prize money to "Salesians for Social APS" remains visible to interested parties on the RaiPlay website.
