Lebanon - Let's help future chefs!

21 August 2019

(ANS - Al Fidar) - The Don Bosco Technique of Al Fidar is one of the area's few professional institutes and welcomes a large number of children with difficulties in entering school, trying to offer them educational accompaniment and human support.

There are courses of all kinds (mechanics, electrical installations, hairdressing, computer science and much more), but in particular, in this area, there is a great demand for catering and hotel staff: these are courses on which the Salesians, always attentive to the needs of the world of work, especially focus on, and they know that high-level training is the key to the future for children all over the world.

For this reason, in order to implement the restaurant/catering program, the Salesians of Al Fidar asked for help from a group of Italian experts, all highly qualified chefs. The primary objective is to refine the skills of the institute's teachers in the field of Italian cuisine and gastronomy (much in demand in Lebanese restaurants), and to offer, through seminars and workshops for the preparation of bakery products and pastries and fresh pasta, specialized training for students. The ultimate goal is to equip students with highly expendable skills in the workplace.

The beneficiaries of the project, sponsored by the Salesian Mission Office of Turin – "Missioni Don Bosco", shall be about 90 youths who will attend the courses and 3 teachers from the catering chain of the Ecole Technique Don Bosco.

Supporting future Lebanese chefs is one of many ways to help young people become - to put it in Don Bosco's words - "good Christians and upright citizens". Today, as then, the theme of the right to a dignified life remains one of the pillars on which Salesian missionaries have given life to their vocational training centers.

The Salesians have been present in Lebanon since 1952 and currently run two canonically erected houses, located in the same area, Jbeil: that of Al Fidar, which hosts a large vocational training school and youth center, as well as another community in El Houssoun with an oratory and a reception house that was very active during the most intense period of the war in Syria, hosting mainly Catholic refugees.
