The young volunteers from Germany will mainly help girls and boys do their homework, take care of them during the afternoon, assist them in class and organize leisure activities. Sports and games, art and music, craft activities and educational activities or the organization of parties and excursions also fall within their field of activity.
"We understand the 'Don Bosco Volunteers' as a learning service. Everyone is involved in projects with their talents, abilities and interests," says Fr Stefan Stöhr, coordinator of voluntary services at the Salesians of Don Bosco in Germany. Today young people want to contribute in a specific and time-limited way. "We would like to offer this opportunity to the volunteers of Don Bosco and at the same time give young people the opportunity to personally and specifically learn about the Church and to reflect on their personal convictions during this year," says Stöhr.
Another 35 people will start voluntary service in autumn in the homes of Don Bosco in Germany.
