RMG - Appointment of new Provincial of Ireland and Malta.

30 December 2016

(ANS - Rome) - On 22 December 2016 the Rector Major Fr Angel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr Eunan McDonnell to succeed Fr Michael Casey as Provincial of the Salesian Province of St Patrick (Ireland and Malta), for the six-year period 2017-2023.

As we thank God for this sign of his love for our Province, we wish Fr Eunan every blessing and promise our support as he carries out the mission to which he has been called.  He responded generously as Mary did:  "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word" (Lk 1, 38). Fr Eunan will begin his six years of service as Provincial on 5 August 2017, during a ceremony presided over by Fr Tadeusz Rozmus, Regional Councillor for Central and Northern Europe.

Fr Eunan was born on 28 September 1961. He made his first religious profession at Warrenstown in 1982 and was ordained priest in 1992 in Strabane (Ireland).

He held the positions of Master of Novices from 1995 to 1999 and Vice-Rector of the Provincial House in Dublin. From 1999 to 2004 he was School Director and later Director of the Oratory at Adigrat in Ethiopia.

At provincial level he was a member of the Council and Provincial Delegate for Vocations in Ireland.
