A total of 15 Provincial Salesian Family Delegates of recent or upcoming appointment and two people in charge of other Salesian Family groups with a similar role within their group are involved – in addition to the members of the team that coordinate the course and the speakers, all up nine people. It is a strongly international gathering, and while Italian is the official language, simultaneous translations are also provided in English, Spanish and French.
The purpose of the meeting is to
– reflect together on Don Bosco as Founder of a great charismatic family;
– explore the Salesian Family Charter of identity;
– discover and underline the role of the Provincial Delegate;
– know the groups of the Salesian Family for which the Salesians of Don Bosco have a particular responsibility;
– share experiences and reflections on Salesian Places.
The venue for the meeting on this special occasion, usually held only in Piedmont, between Turin and the places linked to the figure of Don Bosco, began this year in Rome, celebrating the episcopal ordination ceremony of the Rector Major, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, and Archbishop Giordano Piccinotti, SDB, held on 20 April.
On Sunday 21st the group received a first formation session at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS), offered by Fr Giuseppe Casti, on Don Bosco, initiator of a great movement of people dedicated to the salvation of young people. All those present went to the Salesian Sacred Heart of Jesus basilica to share the joy of the Mass of Thanksgiving for the episcopal ordination of Card. Fernández Artime and Archbishop Giordano Piccinotti The day ended with a time for exchange and discussion with Antonio Boccia, World Coordinator of the Salesian Cooperators and an information session on the presence of the Salesian Family in the Provinces, by Br. Domenico Duc Nam Nguyen, SDB, World Delegate for Past Pupils and Salesian Cooperators.
On Monday 22 April, the Rector Major's Central Delegate for the Salesian Family Secretariat, Fr Joan Luís Playà, led a session on the animation and accompaniment of the Salesian Family Groups. The day also included a meeting with Mr. Bryan Magro, World President of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco; and a round table on the role of the Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family and the Delegates for specific groups.
The Charter of Identity for the Salesian Family was the focus of the activities of Tuesday, 23 April involving two presentations by the Rector Major Emeritus, Fr Pascual Chávez. The relationship with the different Salesian Family Groups as well as best practices for animating groups and holiness in the Salesian Family, were discussed in the afternoon.
On 24 April , the group moved to Turin to continue its work. The programme of activities also includes a pilgrimage to the sites of Don Bosco.
On Thursday 25th the work will continue to be on the move, with stops in Mornese to discover the Salesian charism in its feminine version, involving talks by by Sister Lucrecia Uribe, FMA World Delegate for the Salesian Cooperators, and Sister Gabriela Patiño; and at Colle Don Bosco, under the guidance of Fr Enrico Lupano.
The course for new Salesian Family Delegates will conclude on Friday 26 April, with a final report on holiness in the Salesian Family, and responses and evaluations of the event.
