Italy - Day in honour of Venerable Stephen Ferrando

25 April 2016

Roussillon, Italy - April 2016 – A day in honour of Venerable Stephen Ferrando was celebrated on 16 April in his birthplace Rossiglione (Genoa). The attendance included the local people, members of the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians, founded by him, and members of the Salesian Family all of whom came to give thanks for the missionary life and evangelical witness of this son of Don Bosco.

Archbishop Nosiglia of Turin, himself a native of Roussillon, presided at the Solemn Mass at which there were several concelebrants, including Bishop Pier Giorgio Micchiardi of Acqui, and Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, Postulator General. At the beginning of the celebration the decree declaring him Venerable was read. In his homily Archbishop Nosiglia highlighted the prophetic character of the life of Bishop Ferrando, as a missionary bishop among marginalized people and a man with a great pastoral heart. Then in the parish chapel, the Mother General, Sister Philomena Mathew, gave a short address and Fr Cameroni gave a profile of the virtues of Venerable Stephen Ferrando.
