(ANS – Chiari) – The Salesian Family Provincial Advisory Council of the Lombardy-Emilian Province was held on Sunday 9 June 2024, at the San Bernardino Institute in Chiari, coordinated by Fr Erino Leoni, Vice-Provincial and Delegate for the Salesian Family. The topic for the meeting was the presentation and apreciation of Salesian holiness linked to this area. On the occasion, Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, Postulator General for the Causes of Saints of the Salesian Family, presented the wealth of holiness that has flourished in Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna, covering 17 Saints (3), Blesseds (2), Venerables (7), Servants of God (5).
(ANS - Vatican City) - On Wednesday 12 June, the Holy See's Press Office announced that the Holy Father Pope Francis has appointed Fr Mosese Vitolio Tui, a Salesian of Don Bosco, as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Samoa-Apia, Samoa. He currently serves as the Parish Priest of St. Paul's Church in Massey, in the Diocese of Auckland, New Zealand besides being the Councillor of the Australia-Pacific (AUL) Province of Mary Help of Christians, and serving as the Superior of the Provincial Delegation of the Pacific within the AUL Province.
(ANS – Port-au-Prince) – “Life in Haiti, particularly in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, cannot be described in words. We are in a state of almost total anarchy. People are generally unable to carry out their activities and the main roads are closed". This is the dramatic testimony shared by Fr Victor Auguste, Salesian of Haiti. "The violence of the gangs is causing a significant number of displaced people, especially women and children." Despite the great insecurity and misery, the Salesian missionaries, along with many others, continue to stand by the Haitian people.
(ANS – Chiari) – This year too the"Auxilium don Silvio Galli", a non-profit association for initial reception of marginalised people, and the Salesians in Chiari, have scheduled a "Three days with don Galli" event for the 12th anniversary of the birth into Heaven of the Servant of God Fr Silvio Galli, SDB (1927-2012).
(ANS – Rome) – The last Salesian to speak at the "Return to the Sources Course", organised in May by the Missions Sector and aimed at elderly and long-experienced missionaries, was Fr Oreste Valle. An 80-year-old Sardinian, he has spent a dozen years in Madagascar and more than 30 in Albania. Today there are many lessons that he leaves.
(ANS – Pravia) – The Government of the Principality of Asturias, meeting on 7 June in Pravia, approved the 2024 Medals that reward useful politics, quality journalism, the fight for freedoms, preventive medicine and committed art; and among the winners is also Asturian Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation, who will receive the title of "favourite son of Asturias".
