(ANS - Rome) - A driving licence, the first voter's card, an important journey and many dreams to be fulfilled. These are the first things that come to mind when one thinks of turning 18, a milestone in life that is more like a departure, given the taste of autonomy and independence that it has always carried with it. Yet, turning 18 is not always a celebration. For young people placed in communities for minors, it is a time of great anxiety and concern, because coming of age means the end of many protections and support activities. It means taking steps in an often inhospitable society.
(ANS - San Luis) - The SalesianDon Bosco House in San Luis participated in the Don Bosco 2024 Global Youth Film Festival and won 8th place in the regional awards in America with the short film entitled ‘I dream of a greener planet’. The film, inspired by the festival's slogan ‘I have a dream: young people and climate change’, addresses youth commitment to environmental care.
(ANS – Lubumbashi) – From 24 to 26 October 2024, Fr Maciej Makuła, from the Social Communication Sector of the Salesian Congregation, held the first training session in Mobile Journalism (MoJo) for 18 young Congolese, including 15 young journalists from Radio Don Bosco Lubumbashi, a prenovice and two members of the La Colombe multimedia centre under the supervision of Fr Matthias Amani, SDB, Delegate for Social Communication in the Our Lady of the Assumption Province of Central Africa.
(ANS – Bangalore) – Under the auspices of the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA), the Education and Culture Dimension Heads and School Coordinators from the 12 Salesian Provinces in South Asia gathered for a three-day summit hosted by the Salesian Province of Bangalore. Held at Christ University’s Kengeri campus on October 21-23, the meeting aimed to deepen collaboration and enhance the Salesian educational approach across the region.
(ANS – Paris) – Five years ago the Don Bosco International Media Academy (DBIMA) was inaugurated in Paris, offering training in cinematographic and audiovisual arts. On Saturday 19 October, the first class of Master's students received their degrees and showed the public their work, after many years of training and apprenticeship.
(ANS - Campo Grande) - Isabela Caramalac, a fourth semester student in Advertising and Propaganda, and Julia Pires, a sixth semester student in Design, both from Don Bosco Catholic University (UCDB), took second and fifth place respectively in the regional awards category for South Cone America of the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival’ (DBGYFF) 2024. The world-class Salesian youth film festival served to celebrate youth creativity on global issues and rewarded those short films dedicated to climate change. Among the ten winning films in the regional competition, screened in Rio de Janeiro on 17-18 October, the shorts by the two UCDB students were the only ones to represent Brazil.
