The main reasons for the trip were: on the one hand, to conclude what is already stage IV of the program and, on the other hand, to present to the local partners the person who, on behalf of Solidaridad Don Bosco, shall be responsible for the projects the three NGOs shall continue to develop in the country over the next few years.
The program developed in Haiti has the main goal of contributing to strengthening Haiti's vocational training system, both public and private, through the Salesian network of Vocational Training Centers and in direct coordination with Haiti's Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training. It is a vastly important project not only for the economic investment being made, but also for the fine results achieved over the past 5 years towards improving the education system, and for the challenges now faced by professional training in Haiti, from formation through to skills.
The work accomplished by Salesians in Haiti is very important. They work in the cities of Port-au-Prince, Les Gonaives, Fort Liberté, Pétionville and Les Cayes. Courses cover 21 different fields distributed over 9 vocational training centers, 3 agricultural schools, 3 rehabilitation centers for vulnerable minorities, 1 nursing school and 2 schools for teaching - centers that together educate and accompany more than 3,000 students every year.
Today and tomorrow, October 24 and 25, all the technical staff of the International Cooperation sector of the three NGOs meet in Madrid to continue to progress in their joint work.
