Rwanda – Empowering Rwanda's Youth through TVET Education: A Successful Media Campaign

22 November 2023

(ANS – Kigali) – With funding from Don Bosco Tech Africa, the Job Service Office in Rwanda embarked on a month-long Media Campaign from 23rd September 2023, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) while also enhancing the visibility of Salesian TVET schools across the country.

This campaign utilized various communication channels, including popular local news websites, social media, community radios, and the National Broadcasting Agency-RBA - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atlkMlUVLaY

During the campaign, success stories of former students who had pursued TVET education in Salesian schools and had gone on to create their own successful businesses or secure employment in reputable companies were highlighted.

These visits to successful past pupils not only inspired and motivated current students but also highlighted the practical and tangible outcomes of TVET education.

The impact of the media campaign was evident from the overwhelming positive feedback received. Young people who had pursued TVET courses in Salesian TVET schools were found to be excelling in the job market, proving that TVET education equips students with the necessary skills for employment.

It is hoped that “This success not only encouraged their peers to consider TVET education but also shattered the misconceptions surrounding its value.

Also young people who are pursuing their careers at Don Bosco Technical Schools in Rwanda had the opportunity to express their feelings about their choice.

By leveraging popular news websites, radios, and the National Broadcasting Agency-RBA, the campaign ensured that its message reached a diverse range of audiences across the country.

The media campaign's reach was extensive, targeting the entire population of Rwanda, which boasts over 13 million people, a majority of whom are young individuals.

According to Mr. Twizeyimana Emmanuel, the National Job Service Officer at the Salesian Planning and Development Office “As a result of this successful media campaign, Salesian TVET schools will undoubtedly experience an increase in enrollment as more young individuals recognize the value and potential of TVET education.”

He added that “By highlighting the positive outcomes of TVET education, the media campaign effectively shifted perceptions and created a wave of enthusiasm among young people.”

After the Media Campaign which was concluded recently, there will be an exhibition that will bring together all three Salesian TVET schools in Rwanda. Additionally, there will be a round table conference, sharing of best practices, workshops, and other related activities.

By raising awareness about the importance of TVET education and showcasing success stories, the campaign seeks to empower Rwanda's youth and encourage them to pursue TVET courses.
