In a very fatherly way, the Rector Major met the confreres and guests who came to welcome him, especially the young people and spoke with them. He expressed his joy in seeing the Salesians in Brunswick serving a very diverse group of people in the Youth Centre, Hostel and Parish. He said, “It brings me lot joy and satisfaction seeing this great work of my Salesian family. The future of the Province is burning so bright”.
The parents and young people posed with the Rector Major and took photos with him, and it was an exciting moment for some parents to meet the Rector Major for the very first time. He was infact delighted with the multicultural gathering, which included Australians, Lebanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indians, Egyptians, Argentinians and Italians. Later in the afternoon, many invited guests from different parts of the mission in Brunswick joined with the Rector Major for afternoon tea before he departed for his visit to Clifton Hill.
Fr. Ángel thanked all members of the community in Brunswick for their great efforts in taking forward the mission, with the work that still provided for the future of the Congregation and especially for nurturing the young people who are under our special care. “I want to express my sincere gratitude for the hard work you have been doing and continuing to do for all deserving people. Thank you for keeping the charism and the dream of Don Bosco alive. Many of us won’t be around for the bicentennial, instead the young people who are here today will; some will become benefactors or volunteers for this place, and I am confident the future of this community and Province is in good hands.” (Translated by Father Frank Moloney). He encouraged all members in the community to continue their service to the Province, Congregation, and the Church faithfully and with compassion and true love.
