Rwanda - A job start toolkit for girls at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS

22 September 2023

Gatenga, Rwanda - September 2023 - The first group of girls who benefited from the Gender Matters for Green TVET programme at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS have received job start toolkits while still completing their technical courses in Plumbing and Electricity. Recent studies have shown that girls are still underrepresented in technical courses such as Masonry, Welding, Plumbing, Electricity, Carpentry, and many other courses that are usually believed to be reserved only for boys. In response to this situation, the Salesians of Don Bosco, through the Gender Matters for Green TVET Project, financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation and Jugend Eine Welt, continue to do all they can to increase the number of girls studying technical professions by removing all the barriers that can hinder access to the courses. The event was preceded by an awareness-raising campaign in the surrounding community to encourage girls to enrol in technical courses.
