Ghajnsielem, Malta – December 2023 – 16 Salesians in different stages of formation, including the Quinquennium, held their annual Christmas retreat from 28 to 31 December at the Dar Giuseppina Debono building in Ghajnsielem, near Gozo. The retreat was led by Fr John Horan, SDB, from the Irish Salesian Province, and the formation moments revolved around the theme of the relationship with self, the community and God.
Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic – January 2024 - The Salesian Cooperators (ASC) of the Dominican Republic met at the Salesian Formation and Promotion Centre in Jarabacoa to celebrate the 2024 Annual Assembly, on the theme: "Dreaming to transform hearts". The activities began on 5 January with a representation of Don Bosco's childhood dream, followed by the presentation of the history of the local ASC centres, some testimonies and the sharing of different points of reflection. On the second day, Fr Juan Linares, SDB, led a reflection session on the Rector Major's Strenna 2024, entitled "The dream that makes you dream". A heart that transforms "wolves" into "lambs"", and interpreted it as achallenge for the Association to renew and strengthen itself in the ongoing growth process. Subsequently, the ASC experienced the oratory by meeting a hundred children from the La Joya community in Jarabacoa. Together, ASC and young people shared animations, songs and a representation of the Epiphany, and the children received gifts from the Three Kings. Finally, on Sunday, 7 January, the work of the assembly ended with the reflections by the ASC Provincial Coordinator for the Antilles, José Francisco Ortega, who invited those present and the Association in general to carry out an introspective look at the vocation of the Salesian Cooperator and their role among young people today.
Alta Gracia, Argentina – January 2024 – On 6 January a large crowd gathered to accompany the Three Kings from the Don Bosco Oratory to the Estancia esplanade. The enthusiasm of the little ones was evident, gathered with their families to receive the Kings in Alta Gracia. The Salesian oratory has been in charge of this event for 82 years, working in coordination with the Municipality. Two floats accompanied the trip of the three kings, which took place from the oratory to the centre of the city, where the artists put on a show on the esplanade at the Jesuit Estate, with Christmas carols and other songs performed by tenors Luis Lima and Sebastián Spina, accompanied by dancers and guest singers. The arrival of the Three Kings is always a celebration for all citizens, families are eagerly waiting for them and the little ones are happy to receive various sweets and biscuits from their hands.
Trapani, Italy – January 2024 - Fr Stefano Cortesiano, a young Salesian from the Salesian Province of Sicily (ISI), was ordained a priest on Saturday 6 January 2024, Solemnity of the Epiphany, at the Sacred Heart Parish in Trapani. The ordaining bishop was Bishop Pietro Maria Fragnelli, bishop of Trapani, assisted by Archbishop Alessandro Damiano, archbishop of Agrigento, and Fr Giovanni D’Andrea, Superior of the ISI Province.
Panjim, India – January 2024 – The second session of the 7th Provincial Chapter of the Salesian India-Panjim (INP) Province was held from 4 to 6 January, opened by Fr Clive Telles, INP Provincial, in the presence of 37 Chapter members. The opening of the Provincial Chapter took place in the church of Saint Francis Xavier, near Mount Don Bosco, while the Eucharist and the subsequent discussions took place in the Don Bosco high school in Tuem. Fr Telles urged the Chapter members to focus on the theme "Passionate about Jesus Christ, dedicated to young people", inviting them to focus their lives on Jesus and recalling the privilege of working alongside young people. The Provincial then hoped that the Provincial Chapter would bring a spiritual renewal to the Province. This second session was also an opportunity to discuss the studies undertaken by the five Commissions of the 2024 Provincial Chapter. In particular, the Moderator, Fr Banzelao Teixeira, invited the First Commission, chaired by Fr Ian Figueiredo, to present its conclusions on the theme "Animating and accompanying every consecrated Salesian". Starting from this report, there was a moment of sharing and discussion.
Krakow, Poland – January 2024 - The Salesian Missionary Volunteer Movement (SWM) "Młodzi Światu" and the Salesians of the Province of Poland-Krakow (PLS), especially the students at the Salesian Seminary (WSDTS), have joined the organisation of the 19th edition of the Three Kings Parade in Krakow. Asis the case each 6 January, the Three Kings, with three different processions have traditionally left from three different points of the city to meet at noon on the main square forming a Great Parade and bowing together to the newborn Baby Jesus. The motto of this year's Parade was "W jasełkach leży" (He lay in a crib), to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Living Crib. Once again, during the Krakow Parade, a fundraiser was also held for a housing project for the homeless, carried out by the Relief Work of San Padre Pio.
