R Subrahmanyam, Secretary-Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India, gave away the 5th FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards to 13 Educational Institutions and eminent personalities in the field of education. The award recognises the achievements of educational institutions and personalities that have contributed towards the development of the sector in the country. The award was received by the Pro Vice Chancellor, Fr Joseph Nellanatt, on behalf of the University.
“It is indeed a proud moment for our university. Our University also received a Certificate of Special Mention for Institutional Social Commitment. At Don Bosco University, we want to make Social Commitment as our institutional distinctiveness,” said Fr Joseph Nellanatt.
“If we compare the national scenario of literacy, at least 20 per cent of our population cannot read and write. Only ten per cent of the country's total population has passed Class X. So, we believe, it is our responsibility on the part of the University to contribute to the society,” he said adding that the ADBU is already engaged in significant activities in the university's neighbourhood.
“It is our commitment to ensure that the villages located near our university also develop as our university develops,” he added.
The Assam Don Bosco University which was set up to meet the educational needs of people of the Northeast is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
It offers graduate, postgraduate and research programmes in various disciplines. Assam Don Bosco University is the first private university to be built in Assam and was founded on March 29, 2008, by the Don Bosco Society, the Salesian Province of Guwahati.
The Assam Don Bosco University has also established collaborative arrangements with Universities and Institutions in India and around the world through Memorandums of Understanding (MoU).
