India – DBGYFF 2024 at Don Bosco Kurla: A Vibrant Showcase of Youth Creativity

(ANS – Mumbai) – On October 18, 2024, the Department of Mass Media at Don Bosco College, Kurla, Mumbai, proudly hosted the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (DBGYFF), drawing over 1,200 attendees, including students, faculty, parents, and special guests. The festival celebrated the talents of young filmmakers and emphasized the role of storytelling in driving positive social change.

The event commenced with an inaugural ceremony at Mondini Hall, attended by distinguished guests: Fr. Ashley Miranda, Vice Provincial of the Mumbai Province; Fr. Peter Gonsalves, Professor at Università Pontificia Salesiana, Rome; Fr. Joyston Machado, Director of Tej-Prasarini Don Bosco Communications; Mr. Joy Fernandes, member of the Social Communication Commission, Mumbai Province; Fr. Tony Pinto, Director of DBCL; Fr. Nelson Carvalho, Campus Minister at Don Bosco Kurla; and Fr. Brian Moras, Assistant Director of DBCL. Their words of encouragement underscored the importance of creativity and youth-driven media in addressing contemporary issues.

Throughout the day, screenings took place across two venues, with four slots dedicated to showcasing powerful films, each followed by a 20-minute discussion. Among the highlights was the animated film Wake Up, a regional-level winning entry created by Ms. Aastha Kamble and her team, sparking inspiration among the young audience.

Audience members responded enthusiastically, with many appreciating the event’s organization, decor, and the opportunity for youth to share their stories on an international platform. The festival’s success was amplified through extensive social media promotion and coverage on the day itself, extending DBGYFF’s reach beyond the venue.

The DBGYFF at Don Bosco Kurla successfully provided a vibrant platform for student filmmakers, fostering creativity, enhancing the educational experience, and contributing to professional development. The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment, leaving attendees inspired to continue using film as a tool for positive change.
