Thailand – Meeting of Salesian youth leaders 2024

11 September 2024

Banpong, Thailand – September 2024 – The Salesian Youth Ministry Commission Thailand has organised a Salesian Youth Leaders Camp 2024 held from 5 to 7 September at the Sarasit Pithayalai school, BanPong district, Ratchaburi province. The event was attended by 140 young people from schools affiliated with the Salesian Congregation and the Salesian Family, including 20 teachers and staff members. The meeting was led by Fr Warayut Charoenphoom, head of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM), and Fr Nopphadon Joseph, head of the Commission for Youth Ministry in Thailand, together with representatives of various religious communities of the Salesian Family. The activities carried out encouraged young people to know and understand the role and circumstances of leadership according to the Salesian spirit and reflect on the essence of Don Bosco's childhood dream. As leaders, they must help others cultivate their dreams, especially those in need, “listening to the voices of the poor,” as Pope Francis emphasised in the papal documents “Laudato Si '” and “Laudate Deum.” To respond to this challenge in a concrete way, the young people went to the "Uncle Sanit House" in the province of Ratchaburi, which welcomes abandoned elderly people, to have the opportunity to learn to speak and listen to those in need. The Salesian Youth Leaders Camp ended with a trip to participate in the Salesian Provincial Day of 2024 at the Don Bosco Technological College in Bangkok, during which the three-year preparation programme for the 100th anniversary of the Salesian mission in Thailand (1927-2027) was launched.
