The day began with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Stefano Martoglio at the Provincial house. Welcoming him, at the Eucharistic Table, Fr. Davis commented: “Your first visit dear Fr. Vicar General is indeed a grace-filled and joyous moment for the province of New Delhi. I am sure that your animation will certainly rejuvenate and uplift the spirit of the confreres and our young people”.
Fr. Stefano visited the community of Don Bosco Technical Institute and interacted with the confreres, the staff and the students. Br. Chempakathinal Thomas, the principal of the institute welcomed him and briefed him about the origin, the mission and growth of the institute. In his message to the students, Fr. Stefano said: “Among the 2000 institutions of the Salesian Congregation spread in 135 countries of the world, your institution is one of them. You are part of a big Salesian Family. Be proud of this fact. Consider this institution as your own family and learn the trade for your livelihood and contribute to the well-being and growth of your society”. He continued to visit the printing press, the technical section and the production department. He expressed his appreciation and admiration for the multiple good works being carried over there.
The Vicar General then proceeded to Don Bosco School, Alaknanda. He was accompanied by Fr. Davis Maniparamben, the provincial, Fr. Varghese Palattykoonathan, the Rector of the Provincial house and Fr. Saimy Joseph. They were welcomed at the school premises by Fr. Hemlet Kujur, the Rector and the principal and the other confreres of the community. Fr. Stefano while addressing the students remarked, “Social media is a means, a tool. Do not become a tool of the social media. Technology has made our life so convenient. I reached New Delhi from Rome by flight in one day’s time. Earlier it used to take almost three months by ship. Even by being here amidst you, I can talk to my sister who is in Turin. Gone are the days when to make one call, it was such a difficult task. Hence, learn to be the master of technology, but don’t become its slave”.
In the afternoon, Fr. Stefano left for Ranchi, in the region of Jharkhand to visit the Salesian mission in the Chotanagpur region. He was accompanied by Fr. Davis Maniparaben and Fr. Saimy Joseph. The flight reached Birsa Munda airport, Ranchi at 8.00 pm. A good number of the confreres of the region were there at the airport to welcome him. He was then escorted to Don Bosco, Kokar, where he joined the confreres of the region for a fraternal agape, and then proceeded to Don Bosco Hesag, Hatia for the night rest.
