Mexico – New award for "Salesian Project Tijuana A.C."

04 August 2022

(ANS - Tijuana) - Last July 28, the "Padre Chava" Salesian Refectory, one of the newest but at the same time most significant works of the "Proyecto Salesiano Tijuana A.C.," received an award from the Secretary of Health of the State of Baja California, Dr. José Adrián Medina Amarillas. Also present at the event was Dr. Juan Antonio Ferrer Aguilar, Director General of the Institute of Health for Wellness (INSABI). Both praised the work of the Salesians in this area of the city and the service they provide to the community; they toured the spaces of the Salesian refectory, spoke with the people who frequent it, and witnessed the dignified treatment given to all those who turn to the Salesian work.

The award was received by the Director General of the "Proyecto Salesiano Tijuana A.C.," Fr. Agustín Novoa Leyva SDB, who emphasized to state and federal authorities the work that the "Padre Chava" refectory does for the city's most vulnerable people, especially those involved in mobility processes - migrants and refugees.

On the occasion, Fr. Novoa Leyva highlighted and defended the right to health for all people, a right that is often denied to those who belong to the city's most disadvantaged sectors, such as the elderly, the disabled, the poorest, and especially migrants.

The Salesian also recalled how each Salesian center present in Tijuana is a place that, in addition to being an oasis of peace in a context strongly marked by violence, is also a place where every human being can find immediate welcome, attention, and integral care, according to the style and familiarity that the Salesian Family has inherited from its founder, Don Bosco.

"As a Salesian work, present on this frontier, which for us is a land of mission, we feel more and more committed every day to the cause of the defense of Human Rights, in a clearly evangelical perspective," concluded the Director of the "Proyecto Salesiano Tijuana A.C."
